Parking garage lighting is an important element in commercial lighting design as it serves many purposes. The illumination needs to provide even coverage and minimal shadows to ensure the safety and security of the property and its occupants.
The Challenge
Viking Electric of Tampa Bay was tasked with an upscale apartment garage project at The Slade at Channelside. During their site assessment, they discovered significant lighting issues that needed immediate attention. The old fluorescent and LED fixtures had exposed lamps with poor output, creating safety and security concerns for residents.
“The old strip fixtures had exposed lamps that were being damaged frequently,” noted the CES outside sales representative working on the project. For a residential property where tenant safety and satisfaction are paramount, these lighting failures posed both security risks and ongoing maintenance headaches.
The site needed a comprehensive solution: sturdy, damp location rated fixtures that could withstand the garage environment while also being aesthetically pleasing to maintain the upscale apartment complex’s standards.
Collaborative Planning
Viking Electric worked with the CES-Tampa South outside sales team to develop an appropriate solution for the garage lighting upgrade. Together, they walked the site to fully understand the scope of the challenge and the specific requirements for both covered and exposed areas.
This thorough assessment process ensured that the recommended fixtures would address not only the immediate lighting performance issues but also the long-term durability and maintenance concerns that had plagued the previous installation.
The Solution
The lighting plan utilized two key Tamlite products designed for different areas of the garage:
For the covered garage areas, the team selected CTNLEDT8-D4 gasketed LED tube fixtures. These vapor tight fixtures are specifically designed for outdoor applications and wet environments, providing the durability needed to prevent the frequent lamp damage that had been occurring.
For the rooftop flood lighting, LPFLED low-profile flood lights were chosen. These energy-efficient fixtures provide excellent light quality and coverage while requiring minimal maintenance.
Both fixture types deliver the even light distribution essential for garage safety while meeting the aesthetic standards expected in an upscale residential property.
Results That Matter
The upgrade transformed the garage lighting in under four weeks, delivering immediate improvements in safety, efficiency, and curb appeal. The new LED system provides better coverage with minimal shadows, enhancing both security and the overall resident experience.
“The customer was blown away with the quote and the accessibility of the products. The install took less than four weeks. It was a win-win,” concluded the project team.
The Slade at Channelside now benefits from long-term maintenance savings, improved energy efficiency, and most importantly, enhanced safety and security for residents. The durable, aesthetically pleasing fixtures eliminate the frequent replacement issues while providing superior illumination throughout the garage facility.
