When ensuring public safety is your mission, maintaining a safe work environment is evident. At Speedway Fire Department in Speedway, Indiana, safety is the primary goal, each and every day.
The Challenge
The fire department needed to upgrade their lighting throughout the station’s vehicle bays and storage areas. The old, expensive halogen lighting wasn’t meeting their operational needs. “The station chief wanted to replace the old, expensive halogen lighting with brighter, more efficient LEDs,” said the CES Operations Manager. “They need a well-lit space with few shadows to properly inspect and maintain the trucks & equipment.”
This focus on safety and efficiency led to upgrading lighting fixtures throughout the station’s vehicle bays and storage areas, with plans to expand upgrades to other locations.
Working Together
The CES Operations Manager worked with the TAMCO Group Sales Representative to create an appropriate lighting layout to achieve the customer’s goals. Rather than simply replacing fixtures one-for-one, they took a comprehensive approach to understand the department’s specific needs.
“The TAMCO rep went above and beyond. He did a walkthrough of the building and met the customer with me. Then he and the TAMCO Quote Specialist created lighting layouts that achieved proper illumination of the space,” stated the CES representative.
The Solution
The lighting plan utilized Tamlite Lighting’s SLWLED4 narrow strip fixtures for the main truck bay, the side bay, and a small equipment area. These energy-efficient fixtures illuminate the space edge-to-edge with fewer fixtures delivering brighter lighting. This approach continues to achieve greater energy and cost savings over the years.
Results That Matter
The upgrade delivered exactly what the fire department needed for their critical operations. “The fire chief loved the upgrade and they are able to see any dirt or damage to trucks as well as keep a safe working environment,” said the CES Operations Manager. “He indicated that they would upgrade other stations as well.”
Speedway Fire Department upgraded to Tamlite LED fixtures, improving safety, visibility, and energy efficiency across the station’s bays and storage areas, with plans to expand upgrades to other locations based on the success of this project.
